A frequently asked question for people visiting China, and needing a China visa is basically if they are entering and departing out of Hong Kong but visiting mainland China (mainly Shenzen) for a day trip then what to do. Please follow the instructions for each situation:
If flying in an out of Hong Kong but you will be entering china for less then 24 hours the you will require the following for a Chinese Visa.

- Passport
- Passport Size Photo

If you are visiting China mainland from Hong Kong but for more then a day, then the following requirements for a China visa are needed:
- China Visa Embassy form
- Hong Kong Inbound and Outbound flight tickets for the China visa
- Hotel booking in mainland China
- Passport
- Passport Size photograph.
These are generally the rules for entry into China from Hong Kong. Previously you could obtain the Chinese visa from the embassy in Hong Kong, but now it is required to obtain it from the country of origin. It is likely these Chinese visa application rules are to be relaxed after the Olympic games.
