Should an emergency occur and a member of staff if needed to travel abroad but their passport has expired then the UK government offers a range of services to get an urgent UK passport far quicker than is normal. These services are only available if the person has an existing passport so cannot be used for new applicants or for a first adult passport if they have only had a junior one before.
These services are available at the seven HM Passport offices across the UK: London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Belfast, Peterborough, Newport and Durham.
Premium service
The Premium Service is the quickest option available and also the more expensive. To renew a standard 32 page passport, the charge is £128 and it is the same cost to change a name on an existing passport when a marriage or civil partnership certificate is presented.
The Premium Service is available via an appointment before 11am on Saturday and before the following times depending on location:
- 4pm London
- 1:30pm Liverpool
- 1pm Peterborough
- 12:30pm Glasgow & Newport
- 12pm Belfast & Durham
Fast Track Service
If an urgent UK passport is needed within a week, then the Fast Track service can be utilised. The cost of a standard passport is £103, again the same cost for a change of name. This facility can also be used to replace a lost or stolen passport and even for a first child passport, should the employee need to take a child with them. The charge for a first child passport on this service is £87.
To make use of this service, all forms and supporting paperwork is taken to one of the offices at an agree appointment time. The completed new passport will be delivered to the applicant’s home within 1 week (excluding any public holidays). The applicant will also need to sign for the passport at their home.
If the original passport has been lost or stolen, an interview may be required before a reissue can be considered and this will take longer than the normal appointment, so this information must be advised when booking the service.
A third party can collect the passport if the applicant cannot make the appointment. They need to take their own ID such as passport or driving license and they also need a letter from the applicant naming them as the person to collect the document.
